Affordable Housing Projects
For more than 20 years, the Detroit Catholic Pastoral Alliance has been working on a two-fold mission: working with the community to develop a community plan for the Gratiot Woods neighborhood and preserving and creating affordable housing on the eastside of Detroit.
Our efforts in the affordable housing program began over 20 years ago when a member donated a family house on Melbourne Street. Through the help of many friends, we were able to rehab the home and eventually sold it so it could be “HOME” for a family of three.
Since then, the Alliance has moved its housing program to a 22-square-block area on the east side of Detroit called Gratiot Woods. Anchored by Nativity of Our Lord Church, the Alliance has invested more than $18.6 in the Gratiot Woods Community since 2006.
8900 Gratiot
8900 Gratiot is the Detroit Catholic Pastoral Alliance's first major mixed-use housing development in the Gratiot Woods Community. This impressive 25,000 sq. foot building features 11 apartments (primarily 2 & 3 bedrooms) on the second floor and 3 commercial tenant spaces on the first floor.

9200 Gratiot
9200 Gratiot has been a staple in the Gratiot Woods neighborhood for many years. The building was constructed as Barney Taylor Auto Parts and eventually became a night club called Miami Vice. In 1990, the Detroit Catholic Pastoral Alliance purchased the property and converted it to its headquarters in the community.
As part of his renovation two apartments were created on the second floor. 1 - three bedroom apartment and 1 - two bedroom apartment. These units feature not only a view of Gratiot but also wood floors and large kitchens with lots of cabinet space. A free shared laundry facility is located on the first floor of the apartment entrance.
